As I was flickin through my instagram feed this morning, the 1st of November, I realized I completely missed Halloween. Again. I don't know what it is with me and Halloween?! Perhaps I'm always too busy this time of year to realize that October's almost ending, or Halloween simply doesn't intrigue me. Either way I always forget about it and end up spending the evening at home like any other night. I'd like to think that I love the excitement of going to a costume party with masked strangers, eating candy 'til I puke or gathering around a camp fire telling ghastly stories. Truth is, I hate dressing up, and the thought of having to knock on strangers doors begging for candy makes me want to hide in a dark, damp place, preferably under a stone.I think I remember that my parents used to buy me and my brother candy themselves so that we shouldn't have to go through the traumatic experience of bothering freaky strangers or doing something stupid like decorating the neighbors' front yard with toilet paper. No but seriously, Halloween simply hasn't made any lasting impression on me (that last memory might just be something in my head...). However, what I do like about All Saints is the darkness, the nail-biting stories and the idea of taking a moment to contemplate over the deceased. The holiday has a spiritual or metaphysical quality that I like. Like I'm half expecting some otherworldly experience to come to me.To my defense of not attending any Halloween party yesterday, I was stuck in bed with a nasty cold. Luckily I had everything I needed at home to make this immune boosting warming drink. I've actually had it several times a week during this autumn, simply because it's so yummy! Sweet and warming in the same way as hot chocolate, but with a spicy punch numbing your entire throat. In other words perfect if you have throat ache!Btw all these photos are edited with VSCOcam, cause I originally intended them to go into a Steller Story (which they did). I'm actually surprised how well they work on the blog! Usually I find these filters too "hard" and over-edited, but in this case I kinda like it. Spared me a lot of time too! ; )Warming Turmeric Milkserves 11 cup unsweetened oat milk or plant milk of choice1-2 tsp raw honey (or maple syrup/agave for a vegan option)ca 1/3 tsp ground cardamom1/2 tsp ground turmeric (for beginners, 1 for pro's)pinch of pure vanilla powderpinch of cayenne pepperpinch of black pepperDirectionsMeasure one cup oat milk. Carefully heat in a sauce pan along with spices and raw honey. Sweeten as much or as little as you like. I prefer mine with a lot of cardamom and a lot of turmeric, but the measurements in this recipe is slightly underestimated. Taste and try your way forward : )Only heat the milk to drinking temperature, slightly steamy but not boiling. You want to preserve all the immune boosting nutrients in the honey and spices.Serve instantly, then go to bed and let the drink do its magic. Who knows what supernatural powers might manifest themselves at a night like this one ; ) Enjoy! You can also find this recipe on Steller, searching for "cashewkitchen". Oh btw, how do you like the new header? I'm not 100% sure... I was just trying out something different with an older photo. When I have time I want to style and shoot some kind of foodie still life specifically for the header. Any ideas? : )All photographs, recipes and content are Cashew Kitchen originals, unless otherwise indicated. Please link back to me when sharing.
