immune boosting citrus & cider shots | v + gf

Winter Boosting Citrus & Cider Shots | Cashew KitchenFebruary, the month of endless, tiresome colds. Both Hannah & I have felt a little under the weather for weeks now. Excited about "spring", wearing our tennis shoes and thin jackets, fooled by the warming sun to forget about the deceptively cold air. You know the drill. No we are desperately trying to catch up with work, get back to workout routines and at the same time get enough rest. I've been drinking different variations of lukewarm citrus, apple cider vinegar & honey shots in the morning, to give my immune system and digestive system an extra boost. Since the food markets are overflowing with blood oranges right now (and our fridge too for that matter), I couldn't resist turning them into juice. I mean, only looking at that amazingly intense color would make anyone feel energized!Apple cider vinegar is an all in all awesome thing to add to your morning juice/lemon water. It promotes the production of digestive enzymes which is essential for proper digestion and for strengthening the immune system. However, if you suffer from heart burn I would be a bit careful with the vinegar. It can feel uncomfortable, even though it might help in the long run. Start with a little and increase if it feels good :-) I find that the honey balances the tanginess of the vinegar nicely, making this drink a lot less "sharp".As we are closing in on spring, I'm slowly starting to leave the bowls of roasted and spicy comfort food behind, and turn towards more fresh salads, smoothies and raw breakfasts. I had an amazing plate of raw food last weekend at Centralbadet, so now I'm excited to sprout and soak more! Who's with me?But until I have the time to dive into raw food projects, I'm sticking to this morning citrus shot to stay balanced and energized. Recipe after the jump!Winter Boosting Citrus & Cider Shots | Cashew KitchenWinter Boosting Citrus & Cider Shots | Cashew KitchenA fast and refreshing vitamin boost for tired winter bodies. I like to prepare this drink in the morning before breakfast and it makes me feel instantly energized! The apple cider vinegar also helps to improve digestion.Notes: 1) I use a raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar for maximum health benefits. 2) Feel free to use whatever citrus fruits you have at hand for this recipe :-)

serves 2prep time: 5 min1 orange, or 2 clementines2 blood oranges1 lemon1 tbsp apple cider vinegar2-3 tbsp warm water2 tsp runny honeyDirectionsCut the citrus fruits into halves and squeeze the juice into a small pitcher. I do it by hand, but you can also use a juicer. Gently heat up the water in the microwave or on the stove until warm but not boiling. Add water, apple cider vinegar and honey to the juice. Stir to combine. Pour into small glasses and drink immediately.
