AN ODE TO NORTHERN SUMMERS
Since I bought a new camera just before the summer (more about my camera in the next post), I've been shooting so many beautiful things that have just ended up in a sad little folder somewhere on my computer since I haven't had anywhere to post them - until now! I've become slightly obsessed lately with taking pictures and learning how to edit them, so I thought I'd let this blog be a space not only for food, but for all kinds of photographic escapades I go out for. A huge part of my food photography is about creating a certain ambiance anyway, so I think a little travel and nature photography will only enchance that : )These photos are from an amazing B&B called Solberg, situated in Ångermanland, in the northern part of Sweden. Ångermanland means the land for those who regret. Well the only thing I regret is that I didn't stay! I have a secret dream to buy an old house someday, on a hill overlooking the spectacular river flowing through this part of the country.Anyway, this Bed & Breakfast used to be an old hippie collective in the seventies. Now one of the guys that used to live there has bought the place along with his wife, and together they gradually transform it into the perfect retreat for dreamy, crafty souls like myself. There's an old bakehouse with a stone oven for pizza baking, bee hives, a wind power station (they even produce a surplus of electricity!), a huge linden tree that gives the fresh, raw honey they produce the most amazing flavor, endless fields and a compact and complete silence. We go here every year, cause my grandma grew up just 500 yards from the place, and I've spent pretty much every childhood summer in her old house (that we sold two years ago...). Some day these misty fields and rounded hills will be the first thing I see every morning when I wake up. I can't get over how much I love the silence, the air, the smell, it almost makes my current stressed and overwhealmed self cry. Sometimes I really question why I always end up in tiny apartments in the middle of big cities. I guess it's because I grew up in one and simply assumed that's how I wanted to spend my life. When I'm writing this I'm in the middle of moving back to my hometown, back into the very first apartment I moved to when I left my parents house. Even though I'm constantly longing for the wastness of northern Sweden, I can't wait to be back in my tiny one square meter kitchen with cracked wooden planks on the third floor of a yellow 1940's apartment house in the middle of Stockholm. How I will manage to cook in that shack of a kitchen remains however a mystery. Tight or not, that apartment is like my baby < 3Hmm what was this blog post about again? Anyhow, I think I've channeled all my feelings for today, and hopefully created some kind of coherence with this set of images. I hope you all have a lovely week.
